Roadside Assist Home Assist Emergency Medical Evacuation Accident Management

Roadside Assist

Roadside Assist, a 24-hour roadside emergency assistance offering, caters for mechanical breakdown, flat tyres and batteries or any other roadside related emergency. This service is available to customers within South Africa as well as Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Mozambique and includes the following:

Mechanical and electrical breakdown

Should your vehicle be subject to a mechanical or electrical breakdown, we will arrange for your vehicle to be towed to the nearest place of repair or safekeeping.
This service will be offered at home or roadside.

Jump-start service

A service provider will be despatched to jump-start the vehicle (roadside and non- roadside). This service is limited to reasonable services to mobilise the vehicle and does not include the cost of parts, components, lubricants and similar provisions.

Tyre change service

In the event of a flat tyre, a service provider will be despatched to change the tyre at both roadside and non-roadside locations. Should you not have a spare tyre, the vehicle can be towed – at your own cost – to the nearest appropriate place of repair or safe keeping. This service excludes the cost to repair tyres, parts, wheel balancing or similar charges.

Running out of fuel

In instances where your vehicle has run out of fuel, a service provider will be despatched to refuel your vehicle with 10 litres of fuel.

Keys locked in the vehicle

Should you have locked your keys in your vehicle, a service provider will be despatched to unlock the doors. The cost of the call-out fee and one hour’s labour is covered. The service excludes parts, components, keys or key cutting costs, lubricants or similar charges.

Please take note of the following Roadside Assist conditions:

In an event of Mechanical and electrical breakdown – you will not qualify for an additional tow from the place of safekeeping.
Jump-start service – new models, under warranty, will not be jump-started. They will be towed to the most appropriate place of repair or safekeeping.
Running out of fuel – ten litres of fuel will be provided to you when your vehicle runs out of fuel, and this is limited to two incidents per annum.
Key locked in the vehicle – If a key has broken in the ignition or the door and the problem cannot be resolved immediately, the cost of additional services such as a tow-in is for the caller’s account

Roadside Assist excludes the following:

Vehicles not registered on the agreement
The cost of repairing parts such as new batteries, tyres, locks, keys etc
The cost of towing or repairs if we did not request the service
Vehicles not registered under the Road Traffic Act or similar legislation applicable in South Africa
Vehicles that are not roadworthy or clearly in a state of neglect

Home Assist

Home assist is a 24-hour help line, offering assistance with emergency household repairs that need to be carried out within 2 hours of the call for assistance and that could result in consequential damages. It may also refer to a situation where a caller has no access to essential services such as electricity, hot water or sanitary use.

Service providers are dispatched when emergency repairs are required on the following components:

Electrical
Plumbing
Locksmith
Glazier
Tree Feller
Appliances – client will be assisted with appliances but on a member to pay basis only

Product Benefits:

Three incidents per year are covered up to a maximum of R2000 per year
This cost includes a call out fee and the first hour’s labour
The service provider’s account is settled on behalf of the caller
The benefit period is one calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December, and the benefit does not accumulate, but is a maximum amount per incident
A repair incident is considered per service category, e.g. if an electrician is called out to repair a fault on the distribution board, as well as an electrical connection, this is treated as one call out
Callers are assisted in the event of a non-emergency situation; however the caller is then liable for costs and must settle directly with the service provider at the time of the repair

Emergency Medical Evacuation

In the event of a medical emergency such as a heart attack, drowning, snakebite, gunshot wound or motor accident injury, we can be contacted, 24 hours a day to arrange for emergency medical assistance, anywhere in South Africa.

In instances where you are not able to get to a hospital, appropriate transportation, such as an ambulance will be arranged and payment made. In addition, the service offers:

Emergency telephonic medical advice
Despatch of ambulance/flight service
Arrangements for compassionate visit by a family member
Arrangements for the escorted return of minors after an accident
Guaranteed payment of R5,000
Referrals to doctors and other medical facilities
The relaying of information to a family member/ friend

Accident Management

If you are involved in an accident, we will ensure that all aspects of the accident are handled professionally. The following services are offered under the Accident Management facility:

Vehicle towing

In the event of an accident, arrangements will be made to have the covered vehicle towed to a preferred place of repair by an accredited tow operator.

Transport back home or to place of work

Should you be in an accident, we will arrange alternative transport for you and your passengers to your home or place of work. If necessary, overnight accommodation will be arranged for one night.

Immediate access to telephonic legal advice

This service is available to you through our pre-approved legal advisors and includes:

General legal advice
On-scene advice
Obtaining information such as third party details and reports from independent eye witnesses
Excess payment information and recovery procedures

Rental/courtesy vehicle

If your vehicle is not drivable, a rental or courtesy vehicle will be arranged for you.

Medical evacuation

Medical evacuation will be arranged and paid for if you are unable to get to a hospital. Appropriate transportation, such as an ambulance will be arranged and payment will be made for this service.

Motor Accident Advice

In cases where legal resources are necessary to protect the rights of drivers or injured persons, we will refer you to an appropriate party to assist with matters related to, for example, court orders for unlawful or unauthorised removal or towing of your vehicle by pirate operators. This will ensure that you receive specialised assistance in accident scene case management, as well as support and assistance with all legal matters and claims relating to a collision.

Road Accident Fund

We provide you with legal advice on how and where to lodge a claim with the Road Accident Fund. You can also be referred to a specialist attorney.
